Julia Mallam

Biography

Julia Mallam

I was born and raised in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.   I started dance lessons

aged 5 and that's where this all began! I loved it and by aged 11 I'd joined a

local theatre group and was taking speech and drama lessons. I also had

singing lessons for a few years and although I can hold a tune, I wasn't

fabulous!

I joined the National Youth Music Theatre aged 15 and toured with their

production of The Wizard of Oz and although I had an amazing time, I realised

that straight acting was where my passion lay.

I joined the National Youth Theatre at 16 and toured with their devised piece,

Age Sex Location, in London and Berlin. It was here that I had some fantastic

experiences and made some treasured friends. It's also where I got my first

break!

A wonderful casting director, Doreen Jones, had contacted the National Youth

Theatre to ask if they had any young girls who might be suitable to audition for

an ITV drama project she was casting. I was put forward and after numerous

auditions I got the part. I was both ecstatic and terrified as I'd just finished my

A-Levels and left school and I was due to start at Manchester University

studying English and Drama the following week! My university place was

deferred and I filmed my first job, Take Me, for ITV.

I've been incredibly lucky to have enjoyed a real variety of work since

then including tv drama, comedy, children’s tv, soap, theatre and more

recently, film.
